The Royal College( RVC) has launched a ground- breaking interactive app which Vet offers scholars a mixed- reality veterinary study experience from the safety of their own home. The Compass Virtual warhorse Clinic app is free to download on both iOS and Android and is the first of its kind for veterinary drug in the world.Vet
The Compass Virtual warhorse Clinic app was launched as part of the RVC’s structured response to the dislocation of real- world placements and work experience in veterinary practices since the Covid-
19 epidemic took hold in March 2020. It’s well- known inVet
veterinary education that similar real- world clinical experience is critical to prepare veterinary undergraduates with the necessary ‘ day- bone ’ chops for entering the profession. still, inde beyond the immediate epidemic period, this app is anticipated to remain a significant contributor to the literacy of thousands of undergraduates across the world, mixing their real- world veterinary experience with a structured virtual format.
This new app builds on the former real- world gests of scholars replicating typical caseloads and clinical first- opinion veterinary practice scripts in a readily accessible virtual world. scholars can use the structured clinical chops approaches in the app to further develop their veterinary clinical logic and case operation chops using clinical information sourc from anonymis and randomised data on over,000 tykes . druggies can also acclimatize, sludge and elect the way cases are presented to suit their individual requirements and preferences. The app also supports the
RVC’s morality of widening participation in
undergraduate education by furnishing ‘ enhanced availability ’ options including dyslexia-friendly colour schemes and both audio as well as written display.
In addition to serving scholars in their clinical times, the app also assists veterinary undergraduates in their preclinical times to start to explore the instigative world of first opinion veterinary care. The response from scholars to the app to date has been overwhelmingly positive.

Jaya Sahota, 4th time veterinary pupil at the RVC, reflected
“ I’ve been looking for a resource like this ever. I ’d preliminarily searched unsuccessfully for apps with clinical cases this has popped up at just the right moment! As a veterinary pupil, it’s vital to be suitable to work through real- life case scripts beyond those covered in the classroom to upgrade those critical day one chops that we will anticipated to perform incontinently in practice. The software in the app is learner-friendly and includes different availability options which will be seductive to numerous druggies. ”
Harriet McAuslan, 4th time veterinary pupil at the RVC, said
“ I suppose this app will be particularly useful in times like these where we can
not get to spend important time in real practices. This means that a lot of us are missing out on seeing what’s actually generally coming into first opinion practice.
I really like that the app adds some professional environment to the cases –
it helps to have to suppose about these scripts in further of a real world setting rather than
the perfect conditions that we typically like to imagine when working up a case! ”
Conceived by Dr Dan O’Neill( RVC) and
Dr Neerja Muncaster( University of Surrey’s School of Veterinary Medicine),
the app is part of a sluice of new inventions develop within the RVC’s VetCompass Programme. The current interpretation of the app focuses on the health issues of tykes , but work has formerly begun on rooting clinical data to support a nimble interpretation in the near future. Other species and acclimations to the current format are also plann
Dr Dan O’Neill, Senior Lecturer in Companion Animal Epidemiology at the RVC and inventor of the app, said
“ The part of being a good preceptor is moving from a focus on
‘ tutoring ’( i.e. what the schoolteacher does) to ‘ learning ’( i.e. what the pupil learns).
At the RVC, we now encourage scholars to ‘ learn laboriously
’ by reflecting, doing and uniting rather than ‘ unresistant literacy ’ just by memorising introductory data. This app supports
these inventions in learning proposition by furnishing different and realistic clinical scripts that scholars can work over alone or in groups.
The app provides the questions but leaves the scholars to induce their unique favored results to these clinical mystifications;
and thus the stylish literacy is achiev “
Neerja Muncaster, Fellow at Surrey warhorse School andco-developer of the
app, said “The global epidemic has accelerated our use of technology and
in doing so has handed increased availability and inclusivity to druggies. This novel free app, using real world data, is an authentic tool which encourages independent life-long literacy.
Investing in and supporting hereafter’s clinicians improves not only
their education but most importantly, the weal of the creatures who’ll be in their care. ”
The app is available at no charge and offers no fresh ‘ in- app ’ purchases. It’s available in both iOS and Android formats.
